Sage and Salt

Site-specific performance and series of photos, 2017

Over the course of several weeks, I walked the streets of Tromsø with the goal of circling the entire island on which the city is situated. While walking, I took photographs of the bus stops that I encountered. Just having arrived in the city, my wandering around the island became a ritual that I performed in order to make this new, foreign place my home, like an inauguration or rite of passage. The bus stops came to symbolize everyday rituals and repetition, but also something familiar – a location where it is accepted to stop, sit and wait even in an unknown place, sharing a common space with strangers.
